Dr. Michael Evan Rettig is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in surgery of the hand and wrist. He is Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the New York University School of Medicine, and on the teaching faculty of the New York University Medical Center-Hospital for Joint Diseases Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
After graduating from Cornell University with a bachelor of science with honors, he attended medical school at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center at Syracuse, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Internship in General Surgery and Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery were completed at the New York University Medical Center. Dr. Rettig then completed fellowship training in Hand Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After obtaining the Certificate of Added Qualification in Hand Surgery, he has been practicing surgery of the hand and wrist at the New York Hand Center since 1993.
Dr. Rettig treats surgical and non surgical conditions of the hand and wrist including arthritis, acute fractures, athletic injuries, tendonitis, and nerve compression syndromes. He has lectured at numerous local and national meetings, and published many peer review journal articles and textbook chapters on hand and wrist problems.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, Eastern Orthopaedic Association, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand.
